The International Video Dance Festival of Le Breuil has changed its name to the International Video Dance Festival of Burgundy (Festival International de Vidéo Danse de Bourgogne) to reflect its expansion in the region.  In keeping with the new name, we have a new blog with our latest submission call for works: http://www.videodansebourgogne.wordpress.com

Hello everyone!

We’ve received many e-mails, calls and enquiries about the upcoming 2010 festival.  We expect to post the call for entries soon, but we are still organizing the expanded activities for 2010! We’re very excited about bringing you the second annual video dance festival that has expanded much since last year’s program.  Thanks to everyone who helped make our first festival in 2009 such a success! Please be sure to visit the blog for updates coming soon about submitting your video dance, dance photography and installations for 2010 (subscribe to the RSS feed to make sure you don’t miss the call for entries!).

Come visit us during the festival! Le Breuil is situated in southern Burgundy and easily accessed by train from Paris, Lyon or any other part of France.  You can arrive via regular train or high speed train (called the TGV-only one hour from Paris, or 40 minutes from Lyon).   The high speed train is practical and reasonable if you book your tickets in advance.  Reserve your tickets at least 2 weeks ahead of time and the price is highly reduced.  You can buy tickets and browse schedules at: http://www.sncf-voyages.com  For languages other than French (English, German, etc.) scroll down to the lower left hand corner and click on the flag of your choice.  When entering your destination please type “Le Creusot” (the nearest city, five minutes away from Le Breuil).  Type “Le Creusot TGV” for the high speed train or select “Le Creusot ville” for regional trains.   Contact us for housing options, we may be able to offer a hotel discount to festival-goers.  We highly recommend Le Breuil’s “Le Moulin Rouge” hotel for its delicious three star restaurant, and easy access (walking distance) to festival programs:  http://www.le-moulin-rouge.com/.  Feel free to e-mail us for other options at: videodansedubreuil@yahoo.com

Appel à Candidature : Festival International de Vidéo Danse du Breuil

Le Festival International de Vidéo Danse du Breuil (soutenu par L’ARC – Scène Nationale du Creusot – et la Ville du Breuil) vous invite à proposer vos films de vidéo danse.  Il a pour objectif de valoriser des artistes qui travaillent à mi-chemin entre le cinéma et la danse, ceux qui apportent quelque chose de nouveau dans le domaine de la danse au travers de sa présence a l’écran. Un certain nombre  de photographies de danse et d’installations de vidéo danse  seront également  acceptées pour une exposition qui se déroulera durant le festival.  En dehors des documentaires, notre appel à participation est ouvert à tous les genres et à tous les formats de vidéo danse, y compris aux œuvres qui ne sont pas traditionnellement considérées comme étant de la “danse”, mais qui soulignent la manière dont des images sont chorégraphiées pour la caméra ou/et qui explorent le mouvement d’une façon unique pour la caméra.  Le festival aura lieu en mars 2009.  

Date limite de réception : le 5 novembre 2008.  

Il n’y a pas de frais d’inscription pour la sélection.  

Pour vos propositions de vidéo danse :  envoyez un DVD (vous pouvez envoyer plusieurs films si vous le désirez) PAL ou NTSC avec votre nom et le titre du film indiqués visiblement sur le disque.  Les films doivent être impérativement envoyés avec une feuille d’inscription qui comporte le nom du contact principal de votre projet, vos coordonnées (adresse électronique, adresse complète, numéro(s) de téléphone), le titre du film, un bref synopsis, la durée du film, le format original du film, l’année de production, une liste de tous les participants (réalisateur, compositeur, chorégraphe, producteur,  comédiens/danseurs et autres collaborateurs) et une liste des anciennes projections éventuelles du film.  Merci de nous envoyer également un « still »/photogramme (trois au maximum) pour chaque vidéo proposée.  Les « stills »/photogrammes en format « jpeg » peuvent être envoyés à notre adresse électronique ou par la poste, sur un disque avec vos DVDs.  Ces images seront éventuellement utilisées dans notre catalogue et publicités.  

Pour vos propositions de photographie de danse : envoyez à notre adresse électronique des « jpegs » de haute résolution (trois au maximum), dans le message indiquez vos coordonnées (nom, adresse électronique, adresse, numéro de téléphone, site internet), une note d’intention,  le titre de la photo,  ses dimensions,  type d’accrochage (cadre ou non), matériel et format (numérique,  noir et blanc, méthode d’impression, etc.).  Les dossiers électroniques transmis par courriel sont préférables, mais nous accepterons aussi les images sur disque ou les diapositives envoyées par la poste.  A considérer : comme la vidéo danse, la photographie de danse est un vaste genre d’exploration artistique et nous cherchons une collection d’œuvres diverses susceptibles d’entrer ou non dans le domaine de ce qui est traditionnellement considéré comme étant de la photographie de danse. 

Pour vos propositions d’installations de vidéo danse (ou pour les œuvres vidéo qui n’ont pas pour objectif d’être projetées comme un film) : envoyez votre nom et coordonnées, une description du projet proposé (à inclure : les détails sur l’espace nécessaire, avec dimensions, besoins techniques, etc.).  Des images de soutien sont encouragées : à envoyer par courriel en format « jpeg », ou nous transmettre les liens de référence sur internet.  

 

Date limite de réception des travaux: jusqu’au 5 novembre 2008.  

Il n’y a pas de frais d’inscription pour la sélection.  

Tous les candidats seront informés par courriel de la sélection du programme au mois de décembre 2008.

Call for Entries: Festival International de Vidéo Danse du Breuil

 International Video Dance Festival of Le Breuil  

Video dance entries are now being accepted for the first annual International Video Dance Festival of Le Breuil, sponsored by the National Theatre of France and the City of Le Breuil (Burgundy).  In addition, we are seeking dance photography submissions and a limited number of screen dance installations to be considered for an exhibition that will run in conjunction with the festival screenings.  While we are not accepting documentaries, any other genre or  screen dance format will be considered, including works that may not traditionally be thought of as “dance”, but capture a strong sense of the way images are choreographed on camera and/or the manner in which movement is navigated in a time-based medium.  The festival will take place in March 2009.  All submissions must be received before November 5, 2008.  

For video dance festival submissions, please send a DVD (multiple entries/dvds are accepted) in either NTSC or PAL format, clearly labeled with name and title of work  AND a separate sheet of paper that lists: principal contact name, e-mail address, phone number(s), mailing address, website (if applicable), title of film(s), English or French title if original title is in another language,  running time, original format, year of production, brief description of film, list of the project’s previous screenings and/or awards (if applicable), and a list of credits (director, choreographer, composer, performers,  editor, producer and any other artistic collaborators).  Please also include at least one still image (up to three, maximum) from each video submission. The stills may be sent to the e-mail address listed below as jpegs or mailed on a separate disc alongside your DVD submission.  These images may be used in our festival/exhibition catalogue.  

For dance photography submissions, please e-mail high resolution jpegs (up to three submissions) and include within the body of the e-mail: artist’s name, e-mail address, telephone number(s), mailing address, website (if applicable), short artist’s statement, title of photograph, dimensions, hanging format (framed or other), medium (digital, black and white, alternative printing method if applicable, etc.).   E-mail submissions are preferred, but slides and images on disc will also be accepted at the mailing address given below.  Please note: like screen dance, dance photography is a broad area of artistic exploration and we seek a diverse body of work that may fall within or outside the traditional parameters of what is traditionally considered “dance” photography.  

For screen dance installation submissions (or any type of screen dance project that is not meant to be projected as a film), please e-mail your name and contact information, a description of the proposed work, including detailed space and technical requirements (dimensions, electrical outlets needed, light source etc.).  Supporting images e-mailed in jpeg format or links to on line documents/websites are encouraged.  

Please send all submissions before November 5, 2008. There is no submission fee.  All applicants will be informed of our program selection by December 2008.
